Canon A2 Rechargable Battery
BackI decided to do this because there is only one brand of rechargable 2cr5 battery and the reviews I read on it all said it was not very good. So I found some li-ion cr123a batteries and a charger from www.dealextreme.com.
I was going to run the batteries in series but the batteries are protected from over current situations. The camera while recharging the flash draws 2.15A at 4.15V which works out to 8.92 watts. Thats with a single cr123a. With two of them in series the voltage goes up to 8.30V at what I can only guess is still 2.15A. That would show up as 17.845 watts to the batteries. In my testing that is more than they are willing to let threw because which ever battery is on the negative side trips and has to be reset.
So that did not work out like planed but I did find out that the camera will run off 4.15 volt. So I went ahead and soldered up the batteries in parallel. I have not tested the lower voltage limit of the camera but I took about 40 pictures with the flash on and about another 100 with out the flash on and the batteries were still at 4.15 volt. Thats more than acceptable for my needs as I never shoot more than five roles of 36 exposure film before I have a chance to recharge. Oh and the prices listed are with shiping because deal extreme has free shipping on every item.
